Thallium

Thallium, Tl, is a metallic main group element, found in Group IIIb of the periodic table.

Discovery

Thallium was discovered by W Crookes in 1861AD.

Occurrence

Thallium is occurs in the ores of zinc.

Extraction

Thallium is isolated from the flue dust produced in the manufacture of sulphuric acid.

Thallium is used in photography to increase the sensitivity of the photosensitive silver halide emulsions.
