Platinum was discovered by Ulloa in 1735AD.

Occurrence

Platinum occurs in native form along with the other metals of the platinum group. Its principal ore is sperrylite.

Platinum

is a bright lustrous malleable ductile metal,
does not tarnish in air, and
is insoluble in mineral acids, but is attacked by Aqua Regia.

Platinum is used

in jewelry,

as a catalyst, and
in dentistry.
