Discovery
Platinum used by pre-Colombian Indians
Platinum was discovered by Ulloa in 1735AD.
Occurrence
Platinum occurs in native form along with the other metals of the
platinum group. Its principal ore is sperrylite.

Platinum
- is a bright lustrous malleable ductile metal,
- does not tarnish in air, and
- is insoluble in mineral acids, but is attacked by Aqua Regia.

Platinum is used
- in jewelry,
- in electronics industry for the manufacture of integrated circuits,
- as a catalyst, and
- in dentistry.
