Group VIII of the periodic table.

Discovery
Iridium was discovered by Tennant in 1804AD.
Properties
Iridium is a hard brittle metal which is difficult to machine and work.
Iridium is a member of the platinum group and is highly resistant to
corrosion.
Uses
Iridium is used
- in the alloy of the standard meter bar in Paris,
- for crucibles in gravimetric analysis,
- in electrical contacts, and
- in alloy with platinum to harden it.
