Hafnium
Hafnium, Hf, is a silvery lustrous transition metal element,
found in
Group IVa of
the periodic table.

Discovery
Hafnium was observed by Urbain in 1911 AD and by Dauvillier in 1922 AD.
Hafnium was first isolated by Coster and Hevesy in 1923 AD.
Occurrence
Hafnium occurs in zirconium ores and it has the same atomic volume as
the latter.
Manufacture
Hafnium by the electrolysis of its fluoride salts.
Uses
Hafnium is used in tungsten filaments and electrodes and
as a neutron absorber.
