Europium
Europium, Eu, is a silvery metallic element, which is found in the
lanthanide series of inner transition metals in
Group IIIa of the
periodic table.
- Atomic Number : 63
- Relative Atomic Mass : 151.96
- Melting Point : 822 degC
- Boiling Point : 1529 degC

There are two natural isotopes which are stable, Europium-151
and Europium-153, both of which are neutron absorbers.
Discovery
Europium was discovered spectroscopically by Boisbaudran in 1890AD.
Europium was isolated by Demarcay in 1901 AD.
Occurrence
Europium occurs with the rare earths in their ores.
Extraction
Europium is separated from other rare earths by ion exchange
chromatography.
Preparation
