Palladium, Pd, is a soft white ductile transition metal element,
found in
Group VIII of
the periodic table.

Discovery
Palladium was discovered by Woolaston in 1803AD.
Occurrence
Palladium occurs with the other platinum metals in their ores.
Properties
Palladium
- is a white metal,
- does not tarnish in air,
- is attacked by nitric acid and sulphuric acid, and
- absorbs 900 times its volume of hydrogen at room temperature.
Uses
Palladium is used
- in alloys in the jewelry trade, and
- as a catalyst in hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions.
