Ruthenium, Ru, is a hard white transition metal element, found in
Group VIII of the periodic table.

Discovery
Ruthenium was discovered by K K Klaus in 1844AD.
Occurrence
Ruthenium occurs with the other members of the platinum group in their
ores.

Properties
Ruthenium is
- a white silvery metal,
- is stable in air, but oxidises at high temperature,
- is not attacked by cold or hot acids.
However, when potassium chloride is added to the acid, ruthenium oxidises
explosively.
Reactions
Uses
Ruthenium is used as a hardener for Platinum, Pt.
Ruthenium is used as a catalyst.
