the periodic table.

Discovery
Selenium was discovered by
Berzelius in 1817AD.
Occurrence
Selenium is relatively rare but occurs in trace amounts in pyrites.
Selenium now extracted from the anode mud formed during the
electrolytic refining of copper.
Properties
Selenium occurs in a large number of allotropic forms allotrope.
Selenium has similar chemical properties to Sulphur.
Reactions
Selenium has similar chemical properties to Sulphur.
Uses
Selenium is used
- in the glass industry to neutralise the green tinge in glass,
- in the semiconductor rectification of alternating current to give direct current, and
- because of its photoelectric properties,
- in light meters and
- in the photosensitive drums in photocopiers.
