Uses
Cobalt is used in
- electroplating to give a hard surface which is resistant to oxidation,
- is used to give a blue colour in pottery enamels and glass,
- is used in Alnico alloy, a material with high magnetic strength,
- in Stellite alloy for high speed cutting tools, and
- in animal medicine to correct for its deficiency in soils.
- Cobalt-60, a radioactive isotopes is used as a gamma ray source.
