Scandium

Scandium, Sc, is a hard silvery transition metallic element, found in Group IIIa of the periodic table.

Discovery

Scandium was first discovered by Nilson in 1879AD.

Occurrence

Scandium is a more abundant element in the sun than on Earth.

Scandium occurs in Euxenite and Gadolinite.


Properties

Scandium is a silvery metal which develops a yellow top pink cast on exposure to air.

Uses

Scandium is used in light weight alloys in aircraft.
