April 2006 Results of EPSO National Consultation in Ireland on “Plants for the Future - the European Vision for Plant Research to 2025”.
pdf
During 2005, EPSO initiated a pan-European consultation with relevant stakeholders in each EU member state on a Strategic Research Agenda 2025 and a Draft Action Plan 2010. In late 2006, we surveyed over 800 plant stakeholders (from academia, industry, government and civil society organisations). This document details those responses and provides an insight into the research capacity, priorities, opportunities & needs for plant research in Ireland.

The genetics research group of Dr Charlie Spillane (SFI Investigator, UCC) recently
invited ecological geneticist, Dr Tom Juenger, (University of Texas, Austin) to give a
two-day workshop on Quantitative Genetics & Population Genomics at UCC. The
workshop consisted of intensive lectures and computer practicals in the latest
techniques for identification and analysis of genes controlling quantitative trait
variation in organisms ranging from humans to plants. In recent years, Dr Juenger
has provided similar advanced workshops for researchers at the University of Zurich
and at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.
