This series shines a light into a world that few of us know, and lets the women tell their own stories – why they took up such work,
what they earned, what their daily working life was like, and how they were treated at the end of their working lives
in Ireland in the second half of the twentieth century.
The lives of housekeepers have been largely overlooked, and popular representations of housekeepers, such as Mrs. Doyle in Father Ted and John B. Keane’s Moll are far from the truth.
