Government and Politics Review
05.05.2010

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin recently launched Government and Politics Review - the online undergraduate journal of the Department of Government in UCC.

The journal is the culmination of a year-long project, guided by lecturers Fiona Buckley and Dr Theresa Reidy and involving students of the BSc Government, BA, BComm and UCC’s Government and Politics Society.  The journal is funded by the National Academy for Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (NAIRTL).

Government and Politics Review is published online, peer-reviewed and dedicated to the publication of high-quality undergraduate student research.  The journal is produced, edited and managed by staff and students of the Department of Government and the Government and Politics Society.  Students are recruited to the editorial and management board of the journal.  All articles undergo rigorous peer review.  The project engages students with the research, communication and publication process.

The theme of the first edition of the journal is political reform.  In this first edition there are articles examining subjects as diverse as political parties (Aisling Bolger) and police reform in Northern Ireland (Amy O’Flaherty), as well as articles advocating the use of referenda across the EU to resolve major policy questions (Laura Murphy), Dáil reform (Robert Porter Fitzgibbon) and electoral system reform (Cliodhna Ni Neill).  Articles can be viewed online at http://www.ucc.ie/en/government/GovernmentandPoliticsReview/
