Statute 168.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this eighth day of March, 1994.

Statute 168.
Schedule
Statutes 1 to 167 of University College, Cork shall be read and
construed with the additions, modifications and amendments
hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Professorship of French
- The provisions of this Chapter shall henceforth apply to the
Professorship of French, established by Statute 82, Chapter I.
- (a) Commencing with the next appointment to the Professorship
of French, the holder of said Professorship shall be Head of the
Department of French for a period of at least five years. In the
event of the Governing Body determining, by the making of a
Statute or Regulation or otherwise, that new arrangements shall
apply to the appointment of the Head of the Department of French,
the holder of the said Professorship shall thenceforth have the
obligation of acting as the Head of the Department of French for
such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide.
- (b) In the event of a revised arrangement in regard to the
appointment of a Head of Department referred to in sub-section
(a) applying, the Professor shall carry out the lecturing duties of
the Professorship under the general direction of the Head of the
Department of French.
CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Dental Surgery
- The provisions of this Chapter shall henceforth apply to the
Professorship of Dental Surgery, established by Statute 69, Chapter II.
- (a) Commencing with the next appointment to the Professorship
of Dental Surgery, the Professor shall be Head of the
Department of Dental Surgery for a period of at least five years. In the event of the Governing Body determining, by the making of a Statute or Regulation or otherwise, that new arrangements shall apply to the appointment of the Head of the Department of Dental Surgery, the holder of the said Professorship shall thenceforth have the obligation of acting as Head of the Department of Dental Surgery for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide.
- (b) In the event of a revised arrangement in regard to the appointment of the Head of the Department of Dental Surgery referred to in sub-section (a) applying, the Professor shall carry out the lecturing duties of the Professorship under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Dental Surgery.
CHAPTER III.
Professorship of Education
- With the consent of the present holder of the Professorship of Education, the following provisions shall apply to the said Professorship, established by Statute 31, Chapter III.:
- The said Professor shall, as from the date of her appointment, be Head of the Department of Education for a period of at least five years. In the event of the Governing Body determining, by the making of a Statute or Regulation or otherwise, that new arrangements shall apply to the appointment of the Head of Department of Education, the holder of the said Professorship shall thenceforth have the obligation of acting as Head of the Department of Education for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide.
- The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Education, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. In the event of a revised arrangement in regard to the appointment of a Head of Department referred to in the foregoing section applying, the Professor shall carry out the lecturing duties of the Professorship under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Education.
The Professor shall also examine in Education for the
College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the
University.
- (a) The final sentence in Statute 31, Chapter III., is hereby
deleted.
- (b) The provisions of Statute 165, Chapter X., are hereby
deleted.
CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Applied Psychology No. 2
With the consent of the present holder of the Lectureship in Applied
Psychology No. 2, Statute 163, Chapter IV., Section 3, is hereby
amended by the replacement of the words "Professor of Applied
Psychology" by the words "Head of the Department of Applied
Psychology".
CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Sociology No. 2
With the consent of the present holder of the Lectureship in
Sociology No. 2, Statute 163, Chapter III., Section 3, is hereby
amended by the replacement of the words "Professor of Social Theory
and Institutions" by the words "Head of the Department of Social
Theory and Institutions".
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes 1 to
167 of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute 168 of
University College, Cork or Stat. 168 of Univ. Coll. Cork.
- This Statute will come into operation on the eighth day of March,
1994.
