We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statutes I. to XCX. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to XCLX. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships, readers and lectureships set forth in this Chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as from the dates specified hereunder, be those hereinafter set forth.
The annual stipend of the President shall be £9,600 as from 1 June, 1974, and £10,125 as from 1 December, 1974. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for, pension purposes at £788 per annum as from 1 June, 1974, and at £827 per annum as from 1 December, 1974. In addition, he shall receive a non-pensionable allowance in respect of the expenses of his office, the annual amount of such allowance to be £1,237 as from 1 June, 1974, and £1,298 as from 1 December, 1974.
The annual stipend of the Registrar shall be the same as that provided in section 4. (a) of the Chapter. The present holder of this office shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light, valued for pension purposes at £788 per annum as from 1 June, 1974, and at £827 per annum as from 1 December, 1974. The Governing Body may at its discretion pay a cash allowance equivalent to the pensionable value of residence, fuel and light.
(a) The annual stipend of each full-time professorship (including the full-time professorships in the Faculty of Dairy Science), with the exception of the full-time professorships referred to in sub-sections (b), (c) and (d) of this section, shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £5,601 increasing by annual increments of £195 to a maximum of £6,576, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, and subject to section 8 of this Chapter, be as set out in Column A of the First Appendix annexed hereto.
Provided that the annual stipend to be paid to each of the present holders of the professorships of Anatomy, of Experimental Physics and of Physiology shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £5,802 increasing by annual increments of £195 to a maximum of £6,777, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column B of the First Appendix annexed hereto:
(b) The annual stipend of each of the full-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £6,606 increasing by annual increments of £195 to a maximum of £7,581, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column C of the First Appendix annexed hereto.

(c) The annual stipend of each of the full-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £2,364 and shall, as from 1 December, 1974 be £2,481, plus such annual sum as the Governing Body shall determine having regard to the amount, if any, by which the salary payable to the holder as consultant is abated by the Southern Health Board:

(d) The annual stipend of full-time associate professorships shall, as from 1 June 1974, be £5,157 increasing by annual increments of £159 to a maximum of £5,952 and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column D of the First Appendix annexed hereto.
Provided that the annual stipend to be paid to the present holder, of the Associate Professorship of Irish Language and Literature (Modern Irish Literature) shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £5,199 increasing by annual increments of £195 to a maximum of £6,174, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column E of the First Appendix annexed hereto.
(e) The annual stipend of each of the part-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £1,074, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be £2,085:

(f) The annual stipend of each of the part-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £1,278, and shall as from 1 December, 1974, be £1 342:

(g) The annual stipend of the part-time Professorship of Mathematical Statistics shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £1,317 and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be £1,390.
The annual stipends of Readers shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £4,746 increasing by annual increments of £159 to a maximum of £5,541, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column A of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.
Provided that the annual stipends to be paid to the present holders of the title of Reader in the Departments of Chemistry and of Electrical Engineering shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £4,665 increasing by annual increments of £159 to a maximum of £5,937, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column B of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.
(a) The annual stipend of each full-time lectureship (including the full-time lectureships in the Faculty of Dairy Science), with the exception of the Lectureship in Computer Science and of the full-time lectureships referred to in sub-sections (b), (c) and (d) of this section, shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £4,026 increasing by annual increments of £l59 to a maximum of £5,298, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column C of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.
(b) The annual stipend of each of the full-time lectureships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £4,776 increasing by annual increments of £159 to a maximum of £6,048, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column D of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.
Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry

(c) The annual stipend of the Lectureship in Preventive Dentistry shall, as from 1 June, be £2,388 increasing by annual increments of £79.50 to a maximum of £3,024, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be as set out in Column B of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.
(d) The annual stipend of each of the full-time lectureships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 June, 1974, he £1,221 and shall, as from 1 December, 1974, be £1,281, plus such annual sum as the Governing Body shall determine having regard to the amount, if any, by which the salary payable to the holder as consultant is abated by the Southern Health Board:

Lectureship in Surgery
(a) The annual stipend of each of the Offices of Finance Officer and Secretary, of College Engineer and Planning Officer, of the Dean of Student Affairs and of the Librarian shall be the same as that provided in section 4(a) hereof.
(b) The annual stipend of the Directorship of the Computer Bureau (the holder of which also hold the Lectureship in Computer Science) shall be the same as that provided in section 4(a) hereof.
(a)
(i) The minimum stipend specified in the First and Second Appendices annexed hereto shall be paid in respect of the first year of appointment and each of the subsequent stipend points shall respectively be payable as from each of the annual anniversaries of the date of appointment until the maximum stipend is payable and said maximum stipend shall thenceforth be payable.
Provided that the Governing Body, on the recommendation of the President, shall have power to determine that any stipend point may be paid in respect of the first year of appointment to a holder of a full-time statutory office with special professional experience; on the occurence of such an event, the subsequent stipend points shall respectively be payable as from each of the annual anniversaries of the date of appointment until the maximum stipend is payable and said maximum stipend shall thenceforth be payable.
(ii) Statute LXXXII., Chapter V., section 2, is hereby revoked.
(b) The provisions of Statute LVIII., Chapter I., sections 5 and 7, shall continue to apply to the stipend points in the same way as they formerly applied to incremental Stipends.
Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, as already amended, is hereby further amended to the extant that the amount of the children's allowances shall, as from 1 June, 1974, be £93 per annum in respect of each qualified child, and shall, as from 1 December, 1974 be £96 per annum in respect of each qualified child.
The annual stipend of the Lectureship in Music No. 2 shall, as from 1 October, 1973, be £1,815.
Statute XCVIII., Chapter I., section 2, is hereby amended.
The Governing Body shall appoint one of the full-time professors (excluding associate professors) in the Department of Chemistry as Head of said Department. The said professors shall each in rotation be Head of the Department of Chemistry for a period not exceeding three years. The scheme of rotation shall be as determined by the Governing Body on the recommendation of the Academic Council.
(a) The references to the "Professor of Chemistry" as contained in the Statutes set out below shall be deemed to be references to the "Head of the Department of Chemistry":

(b) The reference to the "said Professor" in Statute LXIV., Chapter V., section 3, shall be deemed to be a reference to the "said Head of the Department of Chemistry ".
The Professorship of Chemistry established by Statute I., Chapter XIII., section 1, shall henceforth be known as the "Professorship of Organic Chemistry ".
The said professorship of Organic Chemistry shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4(a) of this Statute. The provision of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Chemistry, including Organic Chemistry, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Chemistry for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Chemistry, including Organic Chemistry, for the College and, if required to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the Head of the Department of Chemistry.
The said professor shall, when appointed by the Governing Body, act as Head of the Department of Chemistry.
The said professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
The said professorship shall be tenable for the same terms and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been included in Statutes I. to XCIX., of University College, Cork.
With the consent of the present holder of the Professorship of Inorganic Chemistry, the provisions of Statute LXXX., Chapter IV., shall be amended by the addition of the following section:
"5. The said professor shall, when appointed by the Governing Body, act as Head of the Department of Chemistry ".
With the consent of the present holder of the Professorship of Physical Chemistry, the provision of Statute LXXX., Chapter V., shall be amended by the addition of the following section:
"5. The said professor shall when appointed by the Governing Body, act as Head of the Department of Chemistry ".
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Management Science.
The said professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4(a) of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Management Science for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Management Science for the College, and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
The said professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
The said professorship shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been included in Statutes I. to XCV. of University College, Cork.
Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended:
(a) by the addition to the Faculty of Science of the subject Organic Chemistry
(b) by the addition to the Faculty of Commerce of the subject Management Science.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to XCIX. of University College, Cork and maybe cited as Statute C. of University College, Cork or Stat. C. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-sixth day of November, 1974.
