College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences

PX3001/2000? is an accredited professional work experience module that allows CACSSS students to explore and develop their career interests. This optional module can be undertaken during any year of the undergraduate degree. Preparatory training is provided, including CV writing and interview skills workshops.

The UCC Careers Services and the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS)  collaborated to design and deliver this accredited Work Placement Module for UCC Arts Students (CACSSS Work Placement Module— PX2000) as an add on 5 credit module—the first work readiness and work placement accredited module for UCC Arts students.

Second year students, with the approval of their Head of School and the assistance of the Careers Service, will arrange a work placement or internship with a minimum of 70 hours of engagement on the placement. Students will also participate in such relevant pre-placement preparatory workshops as are organised on a regular basis by the Careers Services. The placement can be paid or unpaid, or supported by external funding (e.g. Erasmus), and can occur in a variety of relevant campus, local, national or international settings (e.g. academic, commercial, cultural, heritage, statutory, NGO etc.). Students are required to identify a mentor within the workplace. At the end of the placement (at the latest by mid-August of a given year), students will deliver a reflective portfolio describing their experience to a designated academic mentor, with a copy to the module co-ordinator.
